our story
A Legacy of Warmth, Welcome, and Genuine Hospitality
Hospitality is not a transaction. It is the sacred act of welcoming another person into your heart and home, treating them not as a stranger, but as family.
These were the words—and more importantly, the lived example—of our beloved mother, Margo. Every day of her life, she embodied this philosophy. Neighbors became friends. Friends became family. No one who entered her home left without feeling seen, heard, valued, and loved.
When we lost Margo, we knew that her extraordinary spirit could not be confined to memory alone. It needed to live on, to continue touching lives, to keep making people feel the way only Margo could make them feel: like they mattered.
When we lost Margo, we knew that her extraordinary spirit could not be confined to memory alone. It needed to live on, to continue touching lives, to keep making people feel the way only Margo could make them feel: like they mattered.
Margo Villa Hotel was born from this conviction.
In Memory of Margo
Margo was not a hotelier by profession. She was a mother, a friend, a pillar of her community, and—above all—a woman with an inexhaustible capacity for warmth and generosity.
Her gift was simple yet profound: she made everyone feel welcome. Whether you were meeting her for the first time or had known her for decades, you left her presence feeling lighter, more hopeful, and more connected to something good in this world.
She had an intuitive sense for what people needed—sometimes before they knew themselves. A listening ear. A warm meal. A gentle word of encouragement. A safe space to simply be.
Mama never met a stranger. By the time someone left our home, they were family. That was her magic—not just hospitality, but genuine love for every person she encountered.
— Anne-Marie Bimenyimana, CEO & Margo's Daughter
When we began envisioning what would become Margo Villa Hotel, we asked ourselves: How do we translate Margo's spirit into a business? How do we create a place where guests don't just receive excellent service, but feel what Margo made everyone feel?
The answer became our guiding principle: We treat every guest like Margo would have treated them—not as customers, but as family.
Building Margo's Legacy
Creating Margo Villa Hotel was an act of love and an act of courage. We were not building just another hotel. We were creating a living memorial—a place where Margo's values of warmth, elegance, authenticity, and genuine care would be experienced by thousands of guests.
We chose Kigali deliberately. Rwanda's capital embodies resilience, progress, and hope—values Margo herself exemplified. We chose the boutique format deliberately: just 23 rooms, ensuring we could know every guest by name, remember their preferences, and provide the personal attention that large hotels cannot.
Every design decision reflects Margo's aesthetic: elegant without pretension, sophisticated yet warm, contemporary while honoring Rwandan artistry and heritage.
We named our restaurant Margo Kitchen because Margo's kitchen was the heart of her home—where the most honest conversations happened, where strangers became friends over shared meals, where love was expressed through nourishment.
We created Margo's Corner in our lobby—a dedicated lounge space with her favorite books, photographs, and a bronze plaque with her most beloved saying: "There is always room at the table for one more."
And we trained our team—now 58 dedicated professionals—not just in luxury hospitality standards, but in Muhawe ikaze, the Rwandan philosophy of genuine, heartfelt welcome that was Margo's natural gift.
Our Philosophy: Muhawe ikaze
- Muhawe ikaze is the Kinyarwanda genuine, heartfelt hospitality—not performed, not transactional, but emanating from authentic care for another person's wellbeing. It is Rwanda's gift to the world, and it was Margo's natural way of being.
- At Margo Villa Hotel, Muhawe ikaze is not a marketing slogan. It is our operating system. It means:
- We remember you. Your coffee preference. Your morning routine. The name of your daughter. Your upcoming presentation.
- We anticipate your needs before you express them. Extra towels. A quiet corner for work. Restaurant recommendations tailored to your taste.
- We celebrate your occasions. Birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, personal milestones—we notice, we honor, we participate.
- We resolve problems immediately and generously. If something falls short, we don't make excuses—we make it right.
- We treat you like family—which means honesty, respect, genuine care, and the highest standards, because family deserves nothing less.
This is not something we teach in a training manual. This is something we cultivate in ourselves and our team every single day, asking: "How would Margo have made this guest feel?"

The Margo Villa Promise
When you stay at Margo Villa Hotel, you're not checking into a hotel. You're entering a home. Our home. Margo's home.
You'll see her influence everywhere: in the fresh flowers that greet you (she loved gardens), in the coffee ritual each morning (she believed the first cup should be savored, never rushed), in the way our staff remembers your name after a single conversation (she never forgot anyone).
You'll taste her philosophy in Margo Kitchen, where 70% of our ingredients come from local farmers and our own Margo Farm—because she believed in supporting community and celebrating what Rwanda offers.
You'll feel her values in our sustainability practices (she was passionate about caring for the earth), in our support for local artisans (she championed their work), and in our commitment to employing and training Rwandans in world-class hospitality.
Most of all, you'll experience her spirit in how you feel during your stay. Not like a transaction. Not like a guest number. But like someone who matters. Like family.
